Fundraising or fund-raising (pronunciation: /ˈfʌndˌreɪzɪŋ/) is the process of gathering voluntary contributions of money or other resources, by requesting donations from individuals, businesses, charitable foundations, or governmental agencies.
Etymology
The term "fundraising" is derived from the words "fund" and "raising". The word "fund" comes from the Latin word "fundus", which means "bottom" or "base", and the word "raising" comes from the Old English word "ræsian", which means "to raise" or "to lift up".
