The special field of medicine which is related to the biological and psychological problems of flight.

Aviation medicine deals with the health and certification of the personnel involved in aviation and aerospace medicine including space and air traffic. It deals with all staff involved including astronauts, pilots, air craft, helicopters, fighter pilots, and other aviation related staff.

Aviation medicine as a specialty[edit]

  • The specialty strives to treat or prevent conditions in aviation personnel that can have an effect on the aviation safety.
  • A military practitioner of aviation medicine may be called a flight surgeon and
  • A civilian practitioner is an aviation medical examiner.
