Nairobi is the capital city and largest city of Kenya. It is famous for its landmark buildings such as the Kenya International Conference Centre and the Nairobi National Park, the only game reserve located within a major city.

History[edit]

Nairobi was founded in 1899 by the colonial authorities in British East Africa, as a rail depot on the Uganda Railway. The town quickly grew to replace Mombasa as the capital of Kenya in 1907. After independence in 1963, Nairobi became the capital of the Republic of Kenya.

Nairobi is home to many companies and organizations, including the United Nations Environment Programme and the main offices of several international businesses and organizations. The city is a hub for business and culture, with a vibrant arts scene and a growing tech industry, known as Silicon Savannah.

Nairobi is a cosmopolitan and multicultural city. It is the centre of the Kenyan music scene, with a variety of music genres represented. The city is also known for its street art and graffiti, which is a significant part of the city's cultural expression.
