Accra (/əˈkrɑː/; Akan: Nkran; Ga: Nkran) is the capital city of Ghana, located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, in the south of the country.
Pronunciation
The pronunciation of Accra in English is /əˈkrɑː/. In the local Akan language, it is pronounced as Nkran, and in Ga, another local language, it is pronounced as Nkran.
Etymology
The word Accra is derived from the Akan word Nkran meaning "ant hill". In the Ga language, Accra means "warrior ant".
