Banjul, officially the City of Banjul and formerly known as Bathurst, is the capital city of The Gambia, a small country in West Africa. Situated on St. Mary's Island (Banjul Island), where the Gambia River meets the Atlantic Ocean, it is the smallest capital on the African mainland. History

In 1973, the city was renamed Banjul.
