The University of Nairobi (UoN) is a collegiate research university based in Nairobi, Kenya. It is one of the largest universities in Kenya and was established in 1970, following the dissolution of the University of East Africa. The university has grown to become a leading institution of higher learning in the region, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
History
The University of Nairobi traces its origins to 1956 when it was established as the Royal Technical College. In 1961, it became the second university college in East Africa, under the University of East Africa. In 1970, it was transformed into the University of Nairobi, following the dissolution of the University of East Africa, which also led to the creation of Makerere University in Uganda and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

The University of Nairobi has several campuses spread across Nairobi and its environs. The main campus is located in the central business district of Nairobi. Other notable campuses include the Chiromo Campus, which houses the College of Biological and Physical Sciences, and the Kenyatta National Hospital Campus, which is home to the College of Health Sciences.
