Early life and education
Sergey Brin was born in Moscow, in the Russian SFSR, Soviet Union, to Jewish parents, Mikhail Brin and Eugenia Brin. Brin attended Paint Branch Montessori School in Adelphi, Maryland, and later, Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and mathematics from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1993. Brin then pursued a PhD in computer science at Stanford University, where he met Larry Page.
Career
In 1996, while at Stanford University, Brin and Larry Page began working on a research project that eventually became the Google search engine. The project, initially called "BackRub," was designed to explore the mathematical properties of the World Wide Web, understanding its link structure as a huge graph. The search engine was officially launched in 1998, and the company was incorporated as Google Inc. on September 4, 1998.
Brin served as the president of technology at Google until 2011, when he transitioned to the role of director of special projects. In 2015, Google underwent a major corporate restructuring, creating a new parent company, Alphabet Inc., with Brin becoming its president.
Other ventures
Brin has been involved in various other ventures, including Google Glass, Project Loon, and Google's self-driving car project, which later became Waymo. He is also known for his interest in space exploration and has invested in Space Adventures.
Personal life
Brin married Anne Wojcicki, a biotech analyst and entrepreneur, in 2007. The couple has two children but divorced in 2015. Brin is known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly through the Brin Wojcicki Foundation, which supports various causes, including Parkinson's disease research.
