Established in 1934, it is the oldest modern university in Iran and is often referred to as "Iran's mother university". The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs and is known for its research output and academic excellence.

The University of Tehran was founded in 1934 by the order of Reza Shah Pahlavi, the then ruler of Iran.
