<languages /><translate> Bursa is a fluid-filled sac that cushions and reduces friction in certain parts of the body such as where tendons, ligaments etc insert in to the bone. Inflammation of a bursa is called bursitis.

Types of bursa[edit]

  • Shoulder - subacromial bursa
  • Upper back - scapulothoracic bursa
  • Elbow - olecranon bursa
  • Pelvis - ischial bursa
  • Hip - Greater trochanteric bursa
  • Knee - Prepatellar and infrapatellar bursa
  • Heel - retrocalcaneal bursa

Function[edit]

Bursa help lubricate the areas of friction and reduce stress on the tendons, ligaments and other structure.

Common problems with bursa[edit]

Injury, infection, and inflammation are common.
