The Yale School of the Environment (YSE) is a professional school within Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious environmental schools in the world, offering a range of graduate programs focused on environmental science, management, and policy.
History[edit]
The Yale School of the Environment was established in 1900 as the Yale Forest School, the first graduate forestry school in the United States. It was founded by Gifford Pinchot, who later became the first Chief of the United States Forest Service. The school was renamed the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies in 1972 to reflect its broader focus on environmental issues. In 2020, it was renamed the Yale School of the Environment to better represent its comprehensive approach to environmental education and research.
