Northeastern United States

The Northeastern United States (pronunciation: /ˌnɔːrθˈiːstərn juːˈnaɪtɪd steɪts/), also referred to as the American Northeast or simply the Northeast, is a geographical region of the United States of America defined by the US Census Bureau. It comprises the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Etymology

The term "Northeast" is predominantly used to refer to the area in the northern part of the Eastern United States. The exact origin of the term is unknown, but it has been in use since the early 19th century.
