Harvard University is a private Ivy League research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States.

History

Harvard University was established in 1636 by the Massachusetts legislature. It was named after its first benefactor, John Harvard, who left his library and half his estate to the institution when he died in 1638. The university has grown steadily since its founding and now encompasses eleven principal academic units, with campuses throughout the Boston metropolitan area.

Academics

Harvard University offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. It is known for its programs in law, medicine, business, and the arts and sciences. The university is also home to the largest academic library in the world, the Harvard Library.

Campus

The main campus of Harvard University is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, near Boston. It includes historic buildings, such as Harvard Yard, and modern facilities, such as the Science Center. The university also has campuses in Allston and Longwood, and around the world.

Many notable individuals have graduated from Harvard University, including several U.S. presidents, numerous foreign heads of state, and many winners of the Nobel Prize and the Pulitzer Prize.
