Maine
Maine (meyn)
Maine (IPA: /meɪn/) is a state in the New England region of the United States, bordered by New Hampshire to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Quebec to the northeast and northwest, respectively.
Etymology
The origin of the name "Maine" is unclear. One theory is that it was named after the French province of Maine. Another theory is that it was named by early explorers after the Main (or Maine) river in western France. Yet another theory suggests that it was named for the English village of Broadmayne.
