Brooklyn is a borough of New York City, New York, United States. It is coextensive with Kings County, the most populous county in New York State and the second-most densely populated county in the United States. Brooklyn is New York City's most populous borough, with an estimated 2,736,074 residents in 2020.
History[edit]
Brooklyn was originally settled by the Lenape people. The first European settlement was established by the Dutch in 1634, and the area was named "Breuckelen" after the town of Breukelen in the Netherlands. Brooklyn was incorporated as a city in 1834 and was consolidated with New York City in 1898.
Geography[edit]
Brooklyn is located on the western end of Long Island and shares a land border with the borough of Queens. It is bounded by the East River to the northwest, the Upper New York Bay to the west, the Lower New York Bay to the southwest, and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast.
