Ben & Jerry's
Ben & Jerry's is an American company that produces ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet. It was founded in 1978 in Burlington, Vermont, by childhood friends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. The company is known for its creative and unique flavors, as well as its commitment to social responsibility.
History[edit]
Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield were childhood friends from Merrick, New York. In 1977, they completed a correspondence course on ice cream making from Pennsylvania State University. They then opened their first ice cream shop in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont.
Ben & Jerry's became popular for its innovative flavors, made from fresh Vermont milk and cream. The company's "chunk" philosophy – the idea of filling their ice cream with large chunks of add-ins – set them apart from many other ice cream makers.
Social Responsibility[edit]
Ben & Jerry's has a strong commitment to social responsibility, which is reflected in their business practices. They source their ingredients ethically, promote fair trade, and support a number of social and environmental causes. The company also established the Ben & Jerry's Foundation, which supports grassroots activism and community organizing for social and environmental justice.
Flavors[edit]
Ben & Jerry's is known for its unique and creative flavors. Some of the most popular include Cherry Garcia, Chunky Monkey, and Chocolate Fudge Brownie. They also regularly introduce new flavors and retire old ones, keeping their product line fresh and exciting.
