The Arabian Peninsula (pronunciation: /əˈreɪbiən ˈpɛnɪnsjʊlə/), also known as Arabia or the Arabian subcontinent, is a peninsula of Western Asia situated northeast of Africa on the Arabian plate.

Etymology

The term "Arabian Peninsula" is derived from the term "Arabia", which is from the Greek Αραβία, itself originating from the Assyrian Arabi or Aribi, and the suffix "-an" denoting belonging or relating to. The term "peninsula" is from the Latin paeninsula, from paene ("almost") and insula ("island").
