Medina (pronunciation: /mɛˈdiːnə/), also known as Al Madinah or Madinah, is a city in the Hejaz region of the Arabian Peninsula and administrative headquarters of the Al-Madinah Region of Saudi Arabia.
Etymology
The word "Medina" means "city" in Arabic, and is related to the word "madina" which also means "city". The full Arabic name of the city is Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, which means "the radiant city" or "the enlightened city".
