Corpus Christi College (full name: The College of Corpus Christi and the Blessed Virgin Mary) is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. Founded in 1352, it is notable for being the only college in Cambridge founded by the townspeople. The college is often referred to simply as "Corpus" within the university.

History[edit]

Corpus Christi College was established by the Guilds of Corpus Christi and the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1352. The college was founded to provide for the education of priests and to offer prayers for the souls of the founders. The college's original endowment included properties in Cambridge and the surrounding area.

Architecture[edit]

The college's main site is located on Trumpington Street, near the center of Cambridge. The oldest part of the college is Old Court, which dates back to the 14th century. New Court, also known as the Leckhampton Court, was added in the 19th century. The college chapel, built in the 16th century, is a notable example of Perpendicular Gothic architecture.
