Robinson College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1977 and is the newest of the Cambridge colleges. Named after its benefactor, Sir David Robinson, the college was established with the intention of providing an inclusive environment with a focus on academic excellence.
History[edit]
Robinson College was founded in 1977 following a significant donation from Sir David Robinson, a British philanthropist and entrepreneur. The college was designed to be modern in both architecture and outlook, differing from the older, more traditional colleges at Cambridge. It admitted its first students in 1981.
Architecture[edit]
The college buildings are noted for their distinctive red brick architecture, designed by the architectural firm Gillespie, Kidd & Coia. The layout of the college is designed to encourage interaction among students and staff, featuring communal areas and gardens.
