Smoothie

A Smoothie (/ˈsmuːði/) is a thick, non-alcoholic beverage made from pureed raw fruit, vegetables, and sometimes dairy products (e.g., milk, yogurt, ice-cream or cottage cheese), typically using a blender. Smoothies are often blended with other ingredients such as water, crushed ice, fruit juice, sweeteners (e.g., honey, sugar, stevia, syrup), whey powder, chocolate or nutritional supplements.

Etymology

The term "smoothie" was first used in the United States in the mid-20th century and derived from the smooth texture of the beverage, which was similar to a milkshake. The word was first printed in a publication in the 1940s.
