SABMiller
SABMiller was a multinational brewing and beverage company headquartered in Woking, England. It was one of the world's largest brewers, with brewing interests and distribution agreements across six continents. The company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev in 2016.
History
SABMiller was founded as South African Breweries (SAB) in 1895 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The company expanded internationally after acquiring Miller Brewing Company in 2002, forming SABMiller. Over the years, SABMiller grew through acquisitions and partnerships, becoming a major player in the global beer market.
Operations
SABMiller operated in various regions, including Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. The company produced a wide range of beers, including popular brands such as Peroni, Pilsner Urquell, and Grolsch. SABMiller also had a significant presence in the soft drinks market through its bottling agreements with The Coca-Cola Company.
Africa
In Africa, SABMiller was a dominant force, with operations in over 20 countries. The company was known for its local brands, such as Castle Lager and Tuskers.
Asia
SABMiller had a strong presence in Asia, particularly in India and China. The company formed joint ventures with local brewers to expand its market share in these regions.
Europe
In Europe, SABMiller owned several well-known brands and had a significant market share in countries like Poland, Czech Republic, and Italy.
North America
SABMiller's presence in North America was primarily through its acquisition of Miller Brewing Company. The company also formed a joint venture with Molson Coors called MillerCoors to streamline operations in the United States.
South America
In South America, SABMiller had a strong presence in countries like Colombia and Peru. The company acquired local breweries and introduced its global brands to these markets.
Acquisition by Anheuser-Busch InBev
In 2016, SABMiller was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev for approximately $100 billion. The acquisition was one of the largest in the beverage industry and resulted in the creation of the world's largest beer company. Following the acquisition, SABMiller's operations were integrated into Anheuser-Busch InBev, and the SABMiller brand ceased to exist.
