São Paulo is the largest city in Brazil, and the Americas, and the Southern Hemisphere. It is also the most populous city in the Southern Hemisphere. São Paulo is the capital of the São Paulo state and the main financial, corporate, and commercial center of South America.

History

São Paulo was founded in 1554 by Jesuits missionaries Manuel da Nóbrega and José de Anchieta. The city's growth was fueled by coffee cultivation in the 19th century, and by the influx of immigrants from Europe, the Middle East, and Japan.

Geography

São Paulo is located in Southeastern Brazil, in the southeastern part of the São Paulo state. The city is situated on a plateau, the Brazilian Highlands, at an altitude of approximately 760 meters above sea level.

Economy

São Paulo is the economic engine of Brazil, with an economy larger than that of many countries. The city is home to the B3 Stock Exchange, the largest stock exchange in Latin America. São Paulo's economy is diverse, with sectors such as finance, manufacturing, commerce, technology, and services.

Culture

São Paulo is a cultural hub, with a vibrant arts scene, numerous museums, galleries, and theaters, and a diverse culinary scene. The city hosts the São Paulo Art Biennial, the São Paulo International Film Festival, and the São Paulo Fashion Week, among other events.

São Paulo has a complex transportation network, which includes roads, railways, airports, and a metro system. The city's main airport is São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport, the busiest airport in Brazil.

São Paulo is a major center for higher education in Brazil. The city is home to several universities, including the University of São Paulo, the largest university in Brazil.

São Paulo is a major center for sports in Brazil. The city has several football clubs, including São Paulo FC, Palmeiras, and Corinthians. The city also hosts the Brazilian Grand Prix at the Interlagos Circuit.
