Santiago (pronunciation: /sanˈtjaɣo/), also known as Santiago de Chile, is the capital and largest city of Chile. It is also one of the largest cities in the Americas.

The name Santiago is of Spanish origin and is derived from the Latin name Sancti Iacobi, which translates to 'Saint James'. The city was named after the biblical figure Saint James, who is the patron saint of Spain.
