Pirprofen
Pirprofen
Pirprofen (pronounced: /pirˈprōfən/) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to relieve pain and inflammation in conditions such as arthritis.
Etymology
The term "Pirprofen" is derived from the chemical name 2-(4-(2,5-Dichlorophenyl)-1-piperazinyl)propionic acid. The prefix "Pir-" is derived from "piperazinyl", the middle part of the chemical name, and "-profen" is a common suffix for NSAIDs, indicating its function as an anti-inflammatory drug.
Usage
Pirprofen is used to treat pain and inflammation caused by conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, chemicals that cause inflammation, pain, and fever in the body.
Side Effects
Like other NSAIDs, Pirprofen can cause side effects such as stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, and drowsiness. More serious side effects can include stomach bleeding, kidney problems, and heart attack or stroke.
