Persia
Persia (/ˈpɜːrʒə/, /ˈpɜːrʃə/), officially known as the Islamic Republic of Iran since 1979, is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered to the northwest by Armenia and Azerbaijan, to the north by the Caspian Sea, to the northeast by Turkmenistan, to the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan, to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, and to the west by Turkey and Iraq.
Etymology
The term Persia is derived from Latin Persia, itself deriving from Greek Περσίς (Persis), a region of southern Iran formerly known as Persis, by the Greeks. The name Persia is widely believed to mean "land of the Persians".
