James H. Quillen College of Medicine is a renowned medical institution associated with East Tennessee State University, situated in Johnson City, Tennessee. Recognized as one of the two public medical schools in Tennessee, the other being the University of Tennessee College of Medicine located in Memphis.

History[edit]

The college has been named in honor of Congressman Jimmy Quillen, who ardently championed the cause for the inauguration of a second public medical school in Tennessee. Initially, it was introduced as the ETSU Quillen-Dishner College of Medicine, but in 1989, Dr. Paul Dishner's name was removed, solidifying its current designation.
