Union County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 27,244. The county seat is Union. The county was created in 1785.

History[edit]

Union County was formed in 1785 as part of the Ninety-Six District. It was named for the old Union Church, which served both the Presbyterians and the Episcopalians. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Revolutionary War.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 516 square miles (1,340 km²), of which 514 square miles (1,330 km²) is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²) (0.4%) is water.
