Introduction

Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants in the family Cannabaceae. The number of species within the genus is disputed. Medical cannabis, or medical marijuana, is cannabis and cannabinoids that are prescribed by physicians for their patients. The use of cannabis as medicine has not been rigorously tested due to production and governmental restrictions, resulting in limited clinical research.

Industrial Use

Industrial cannabis, or hemp, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for industrial use. It can be used to produce a wide range of products including, but not limited to, textiles, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food, and animal feed.

Legal Status

The legal status of cannabis varies widely from country to country, and from state to state in the United States. In some jurisdictions, it is illegal to sell, possess, or use cannabis. In others, it is legal for medical use, and in some, it is fully legal for both medical and recreational use.
