Peet's Coffee is a San Francisco Bay Area-based specialty coffee roaster and retailer owned by JAB Holding Company. Founded in 1966 by Alfred Peet in Berkeley, California, Peet's introduced the United States to its darker roasted Arabica coffee in blends including French Roast and grades appropriate for espresso drinks.

History[edit]

Alfred Peet, a Dutch immigrant, established Peet's Coffee in 1966 in Berkeley, California. Peet was a coffee roaster and industry pioneer who, after observing the poor quality of coffee in America, set out to offer high-quality coffee beans and superior brewing methods. His approach to coffee roasting was considered revolutionary and led to the creation of a new American coffee culture.

Products and Services[edit]

Peet's Coffee offers a variety of products, including fresh roasted coffee beans, brewed coffee, and espresso drinks. They also sell tea, pastries, and coffee-related equipment and accessories. Peet's is known for its commitment to quality and freshness, with beans typically roasted and shipped within 24 hours of ordering.

Influence[edit]

Peet's Coffee has had a significant influence on the coffee industry. It is often credited with pioneering the gourmet coffee movement in the United States. The founders of Starbucks, the largest coffeehouse chain in the world, were originally inspired by Alfred Peet's style of coffee roasting and even used Peet's roasted beans in their own stores for a time.
