History
Tongaat Hulett was established in 1892 as Hulett's Sugar by Sir Liege Hulett. The company initially focused on sugar production in the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa. In 1962, it merged with the Tongaat Sugar Company to form the Tongaat-Hulett Sugar Group. The company diversified its operations over the years, venturing into starch production and property development.

Sugar
The company's sugar operations involve the cultivation of sugarcane, production of raw and refined sugar, and the manufacture of downstream products such as molasses and ethanol. Starch
Tongaat Hulett's starch division produces a variety of starch and glucose products for the food, beverage, paper and textile industries. The company operates four maize mills in South Africa.
Property Development
The company's property development division is involved in the conversion of agricultural land into residential, commercial and industrial properties. This division has been instrumental in the development of several major projects in KwaZulu-Natal.
