Tiprenolol
Tiprenolol
Tiprenolol (pronounced: tip-ren-o-lol) is a type of Beta Blocker medication used primarily in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (chest pain).
Etymology
The term "Tiprenolol" is derived from its chemical structure. The prefix "Tipre-" is derived from its chemical name, 1-(propan-2-ylamino)-3-(2-methylphenoxy)propan-2-ol, and "-nolol" is a common suffix for beta blockers.
Usage
Tiprenolol is used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain due to angina pectoris. It works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. This effect reduces heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart.
