Social Justice
Social justice (/ˈsoʊʃəl ˈdʒʌstɪs/) is a concept of fair and just relations between the individual and society, measured by the distribution of wealth, opportunities for personal activity, and social privileges. The term originated in the early 19th century during the Industrial Revolution and subsequent civil revolutions throughout Europe, which aimed to create more egalitarian societies and remedy capitalistic exploitation of human labor.
Etymology
The term "social justice" was coined by the Jesuit priest Luigi Taparelli in the mid-19th century and further elaborated by the moral theologian Antonio Rosmini-Serbati. The phrase has taken on a very broad meaning in contemporary usage, encompassing a wide variety of issues related to society, politics, economics, and human rights.
