Sea
Sea
Sea (pronunciation: /siː/) is a large body of salt water that is surrounded in whole or in part by land. More broadly, "the sea" is the interconnected system of Earth's salty, oceanic waters, considered as one global ocean or as several principal oceanic divisions.
Etymology
The word "sea" comes from the Old English word "sǣ", which in turn comes from the Proto-Germanic "*saiwiz". The word has similar counterparts in other Germanic languages, such as the Dutch "zee" and the German "See".
