Rosedale, Queens
Rosedale, Queens is a neighborhood located in the New York City borough of Queens. It is bordered by the neighborhoods of Cambria Heights to the north, Brookville to the west, Laurelton to the east, and the John F. Kennedy International Airport to the south.
History
Rosedale was incorporated by flower-loving settlers in the 19th century who named the community after the abundant roses that grew in the area. The neighborhood was originally developed as a residential area for the working class during the early 20th century.
Geography
Rosedale is located in the southeastern part of Queens. It is primarily a residential neighborhood with a mix of single-family homes, duplexes, and apartment buildings. The area is known for its well-kept homes and manicured lawns.
Demographics
Rosedale is a diverse community with a significant African American and Caribbean population. The neighborhood is also home to a growing number of Hispanic and Asian residents.
Transportation
Rosedale is served by the Long Island Rail Road's Rosedale station, which provides direct service to Penn Station in Manhattan. The neighborhood is also served by several bus lines, including the Q5, Q85, and Q111.
Education
Rosedale is part of the New York City Department of Education's District 29. The neighborhood is home to several public and private schools, including P.S. 195 William Haberle and the St. Clare Catholic Academy.
