Richmond Hill, Queens

Richmond Hill is a neighborhood in the borough of Queens in New York City. The neighborhood is part of Queens Community Board 9. Richmond Hill is located in the southwestern part of the borough, bordered by Kew Gardens to the north, Woodhaven and Ozone Park to the west, South Ozone Park to the south, and South Jamaica to the east.

History

Richmond Hill was first settled by European immigrants in the late 17th century. The area was named after the town of Richmond Hill in England. The neighborhood was developed as a residential community in the late 19th century, with the construction of the Long Island Rail Road providing easy access to Manhattan.

Demographics

Richmond Hill is one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in New York City. It is home to a large Indo-Caribbean population, as well as significant numbers of African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans.

Transportation

Richmond Hill is served by several New York City Subway lines, including the A, J, and M trains. The neighborhood is also served by several bus routes operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Education

Richmond Hill is part of the New York City Department of Education's District 27. The neighborhood is home to several public and private schools, including Richmond Hill High School and P.S. 66.

Notable people

Several notable individuals have hailed from Richmond Hill, including Phil Rizzuto, a former Major League Baseball player and broadcaster, and Nancy Shevell, a businesswoman and the wife of Paul McCartney.
