Prejudice

Prejudice (/ˈprɛdʒʊdɪs/) is a preconceived opinion or bias, often based on irrational feelings, attitudes, or stereotypes towards certain individuals or groups. The term is derived from the Latin word "praejudicium", which means 'prejudgment'.

Etymology

The term "prejudice" is derived from the Latin "praejudicium". "Prae" means 'before' and "judicium" means 'judgment', implying forming an opinion before becoming aware of the relevant facts of a case.

Types of Prejudice

Prejudice can manifest in various forms, including but not limited to:

  • Racial Prejudice: Preconceived opinions or biases towards individuals or groups based on their race.
  • Sexual Prejudice: Prejudice directed at people because of their sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
