Paracelsus Medical University (Paracelsus Medizinische Privatuniversität in German, pronounced: [ˌparaˈkɛlsʊs mɛˈdiːtsiːnɪʃə pʁiˈvaːtʊniˈvɛʁziːt]) is a private medical university located in Salzburg, Austria. The university was named after Paracelsus, a Swiss physician and alchemist who is considered one of the fathers of modern medicine.
Etymology
The name "Paracelsus" is derived from the Greek words "para", meaning "beyond", and "Kelsos", referring to the ancient Greek physician Galen. Paracelsus believed his methods were beyond those of Galen, hence the name.
History
