Himalayas (pronunciation: /hɪˈmeɪliəz, hɪˈmɑːləjəz/), also known as the Himalaya or the Himadri, is a mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau.
Etymology
The name Himalayas is from the Sanskrit: हिम (him) "snow" and आलय (ālaya) "dwelling", translating to "abode of the snow".
