Program features[edit]
- We are located 20 miles north of Houston in a beautiful lakeside community.
- HCA has one of the largest network of hospitals in the city and the country, allowing us to share best practices and learning resources among programs.
- Our collaboration with the new University of Houston College of Medicine affords our residents with opportunities to teach students and participate in grand rounds on topics such as health care disparities.
- Our residents see the full breadth of cases at our 500 bed hospital, HCA Kingwood, a referral center for North Houston.
- We have a comprehensive simulation, didactic, and ambulatory curriculum.
- Nearly all of the outpatient clinics, including a brand new continuity clinic, are walking distance from the hospital. Our inpatient elective and outpatient clinic rotations all have full weekends off.
Program goal/aim[edit]
- The program seeks to provide a comprehensive curriculum to develop compassionate, highly competent, patient-centric, and ethical internists with expertise in disease prevention, and expertise in the diagnosis and management of patients with various conditions.
- We seek to instill in residents, the ability to accurately diagnose and treat patients with acute and chronic illness, provide them with the tools to develop relationships and collaborate with colleagues across the professional continuum and equip residents with the knowledge to strongly impact public health through community education and as advocates for disease prevention.
- We expect to graduate well-rounded physicians who successfully incorporate scholarly activity into their evidence-based practice.
- Our goal is to provide a strong foundation to promote lifelong collegial mentorship and develop future leaders.
Program Mission[edit]
- As part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
- We are committed to training Internal Medicine residents committed to delivering healthcare as it should be: patient-centered and for the good of all people, no matter their circumstance.
- We are committed to retaining the physicians that we train in order to better serve our community.
- The strength of our training program is the tremendous depth and breadth of our clinical care.
- We provide an academically and clinically rigorous training program in Internal Medicine.
- Our dedicated faculty, supported by the significant resources of HCA Healthcare GME provide our trainees with the basic and clinical knowledge, procedural skills, clinical judgment, professionalism, and the interpersonal skills necessary for a successful career and to develop as a leader in Internal Medicine.
- The curriculum is designed to provide a broad clinical exposure in acute and chronic care occurring in the inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as extensive experience in appropriate procedures.
- We are also committed to nurturing a robust interest in scientific investigation and evidence-based practice.
- We are committed to serving a diverse Houston community by educating residents in disparities of care and culturally sensitive care.
- Through our affiliation with the University of Houston College of Medicine, these topics are emphasized since the school has as one of its missions to decrease the disparities in care and study the social determinants of health.
- These goals align well with those of HCA.
