Fumarase - (pronounced) (FYOO-moo-rays) An enzyme that helps cells in the body use oxygen and make energy. Mutations (changes) in the gene that makes fumarase can cause cells to lose their ability to use oxygen, which can increase the growth of some cells, including abnormal cells and cancer cells. Also called fumarate hydratase
