History

Druther's was originally established as "Burger Queen" in 1956. The chain was founded by Harold Kite and Travis Harkins in Winter Haven, Florida. The name "Burger Queen" was chosen to complement the popular Burger King chain, although the two companies were not related.

In 1981, the company decided to rebrand itself as Druther's. The new name was derived from the phrase "I'd druther have a burger," which was a colloquial way of saying "I'd rather have a burger." The rebranding was part of an effort to differentiate the chain from its competitors and to expand its menu offerings beyond just burgers.
