Darjeeling (pronunciation: /ˌdɑːrdʒɪˈlɪŋ/) is a term that is often associated with a type of tea, but it is also a city and a district in the Indian state of West Bengal.
Etymology
The name Darjeeling comes from the Tibetan words, "dorje" which means thunderbolt and "ling" which means place or land, hence it is known as the "Land of the Thunderbolt".

Darjeeling is a city and a municipality in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located in the Lesser Himalayas at an elevation of 6,700 ft (2,042.2 m). It is noted for its tea industry, its views of the Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain, and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Darjeeling as a District
Darjeeling is also a district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The district is famous for its hill stations (excluding Darjeeling town) and is a popular tourist destination in India.
Darjeeling Tea
Darjeeling tea is a tea from the Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India. It is available in black, green, white and oolong. When properly brewed, it yields a thin-bodied, light-colored infusion with a floral aroma. The flavor can include a tinge of astringent tannic characteristics and a musky spiciness sometimes described as "muscatel".
