DNAJC19

DNAJC19 (pronounced D-N-A-J-C-Nineteen), also known as DnaJ Heat Shock Protein Family (Hsp40) Member C19, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the DNAJC19 gene.

Etymology

The term DNAJC19 is an abbreviation derived from "DnaJ Heat Shock Protein Family (Hsp40) Member C19". The DnaJ, or Hsp40, family is named after the original bacterial gene 'DnaJ' identified in E. coli. The 'C19' denotes it as the 19th member of this protein family.

Function

DNAJC19 is an integral protein of the mitochondria inner membrane and is involved in the formation of mitochondrial cristae. It is also associated with cardiomyopathy and ataxia in the DNAJC19-related disorder DCMA syndrome.

Related Terms
