Computer program

A Computer program (pronounced /kəmˈpjuːtər ˈproʊɡræm/) is a collection of instructions that can be executed by a computer to perform a specific task. A computer program is also known as a software or application.

Etymology

The term "Computer program" is derived from the combination of two words, "computer" and "program". The word "computer" comes from the Latin word "computare", which means "to calculate" or "to count". The word "program" comes from the Greek word "programma", which means "a written public notice".
