Mutations in SNAP29 disrupt these processes, leading to the symptoms observed in CEDNIK syndrome. The syndrome is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner, meaning that an individual must inherit two copies of the mutated gene, one from each parent, to be affected by the disorder. Parents of an affected individual are typically carriers of the condition, meaning they have one copy of the mutated gene but do not show symptoms themselves.
Diagnosis[edit]
Diagnosis of CEDNIK syndrome is based on clinical evaluation, identification of characteristic symptoms, and genetic testing to confirm mutations in the SNAP29 gene. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain may reveal structural abnormalities consistent with cerebral dysgenesis.
Management[edit]
There is currently no cure for CEDNIK syndrome, and treatment is primarily supportive and symptomatic. Management strategies may include:

- Antiepileptic drugs to control seizures.
