Ben Carson (pronounced: ben kar-suhn) is a renowned American neurosurgeon, author, and politician. He was born on September 18, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
Etymology
The name Ben is of Hebrew origin, meaning "son of the south" or "son of the right hand". Carson is of Scottish and Irish origin, meaning "son of the marsh-dwellers".
Medical Career
Ben Carson is best known for his career in neurosurgery. He served as the director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore from 1984 until his retirement in 2013. Carson's medical career is distinguished by his successful separation of conjoined twins and development of new methods to treat brain-stem tumors and seizures. He is also known for his pioneering work in the field of neuroimaging.
Political Career
In addition to his medical career, Ben Carson has also been involved in politics. He was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election. Following his campaign, he served as the 17th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2021 under the Trump administration.
