Ban Tian Yao tea
Ban Tian Yao is a type of oolong tea originating from Wuyi Mountains, Fujian Province, China. It is one of the Si Da Ming Cong, the four famous bushes of Wuyi. The name Ban Tian Yao translates to "Half Sky Waist" in English, which is a poetic description of the tea plant's growth pattern.
History
Ban Tian Yao tea has a long history dating back to the Qing Dynasty. It was highly prized by the royal court and was often presented as a tribute to the emperor. The tea is traditionally grown in the rocky, mineral-rich soil of the Wuyi Mountains, which contributes to its unique flavor profile.
Production
The production process of Ban Tian Yao involves several steps. After the leaves are harvested, they are withered under the sun, then shaken in bamboo trays to bruise the edges of the leaves. This process, known as oxidation, is what gives oolong tea its distinctive flavor. The leaves are then fired to stop the oxidation process, rolled into their characteristic shape, and finally baked to dry.
Taste
Ban Tian Yao is known for its complex flavor profile. It has a sweet, floral aroma with notes of honey and orchid. The taste is smooth and rich, with a lingering aftertaste. The tea is also known for its "rock rhyme" (Yan Yun), a term used to describe the mineral taste imparted by the rocky soil in which the tea is grown.
Health Benefits
Like other types of tea, Ban Tian Yao has several health benefits. It is rich in antioxidants, which can help to prevent cell damage and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. It also contains theanine, an amino acid that can help to reduce stress and improve mental focus.
