BHP
BHP (formerly known as BHP Billiton) is an Australian multinational mining, metals, and petroleum company headquartered in Melbourne, Victoria. It is one of the world's largest resource companies and operates in over 25 countries.
History
BHP was founded in 1885 in the mining town of Broken Hill, New South Wales. The company was originally known as the Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited. In 2001, BHP merged with the Anglo–Dutch mining company Billiton to form BHP Billiton. In 2017, the company rebranded itself as BHP.
Operations
BHP's operations are divided into four main business units:
Minerals Australia
This unit includes operations in iron ore, coal, nickel, and copper in Australia. The company's largest and most profitable operations are in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, where it operates several iron ore mines.
Minerals Americas
This unit includes operations in copper, silver, lead, zinc, and uranium in the Americas. Key assets include the Escondida mine in Chile, which is the world's largest copper mine.
Petroleum
BHP's petroleum business includes exploration, development, and production of oil and gas. The company has operations in the Gulf of Mexico, Australia, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Marketing and Supply
This unit is responsible for the global marketing and supply chain activities of BHP's products. It ensures the efficient and effective delivery of resources to customers around the world.
Environmental and Social Responsibility
