BASDAI
BASDAI (pronounced: /bæsˈdaɪ/), an acronym for Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index, is a self-administered tool used to evaluate the severity of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine.
Etymology
The term "BASDAI" is derived from the city of Bath, UK, where the index was first developed, and the medical condition it is used to assess, Ankylosing Spondylitis.
Usage
The BASDAI is used to measure the disease activity in patients with ankylosing spondylitis. It consists of six questions that assess fatigue, spinal pain, joint pain/swelling, areas of localized tenderness, and morning stiffness (both qualitative and quantitative). The responses are measured on a numerical rating scale, with 0 indicating no problem and 10 indicating the worst problem.
