Avengers
Avengers[edit]
The Avengers are a fictional team of superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The team made its debut in The Avengers #1, created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby. The Avengers are known for their battle cry, "Avengers Assemble!"
History[edit]
The Avengers were created as a response to the success of DC Comics' Justice League. The original team consisted of Iron Man, Ant-Man, Hulk, Thor, and the Wasp. They were later joined by Captain America, who was discovered trapped in ice in The Avengers #4.
Formation[edit]
The team was formed when Loki, the Asgardian god of mischief, manipulated the Hulk into going on a rampage. This led to the formation of a team to stop him, which included Iron Man, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Thor. They eventually discovered Loki's involvement and defeated him, deciding to remain together as a team.
Notable Storylines[edit]
- The Kree-Skrull War: A major storyline involving the Avengers caught in the middle of a war between the alien Kree and Skrull empires.
- Avengers Disassembled: A storyline where the team is torn apart by a series of tragic events orchestrated by the Scarlet Witch.
- Civil War: A crossover event where the Avengers are divided over the Superhuman Registration Act.
